It's time

I hate reading this on other people's blogs and I hate writing it on mine. But the truth is it's time to let the blog go. Time drifts on and circumstances change and all that stuff.

I still love writing a blog but two big impediments have come along - my increasing work hours that make it hard to justify the hours it takes to write well and not just re-post cute videos, and my current job which requires me to think very carefully about what I post publically online. And the reason I started blogging in the first place has shifted too.

I would have given the blog away ages ago if it wasn't for one thing - there are a bunch of people that I know only through the online world and I'm sad to let those friendships slip away. Some of them blog (hooray!) so I can keep up with their blogs but I know my blog is the only link I have left with some of you. Sniff, sniff.

I think many of us are more lonely than we let on. The complications of what you can be honest about in your real-life interpersonal relationships are somewhat removed when you are communicating in the gigantic online world. The irony is the more public and anonymous the communication the more real and intimate we often choose to become. It's like the difference in perspective between whispering something in a small closed room and being up in outer space looking down at the green and blue globe floating below you. And so I have found kindred spirits through blogging whose encouragement and humour I would have missed if I'd stayed offline.

But. Still.  It must be done.

I hope 2016 is a wonderful year for you all. Should you want to contact me, the email address in the contact me tab will still be operational.  Thanks for all the laughs.  God bless.  And if you are the last one out, could you please switch off the lights? Ta.

Thanks, Deb.
We will miss your blog.
But we understand.

There is a wonderful symmetry here because I remember very clearly a post early on in the life of your blog about having put a few posts up before letting people know you actually had a blog otherwise it would like inviting people over to an empty house. And now, at the end, you are back home and asking the last one to turn off the lights. Beautiful - and a beautifully written post as always.
I'm sad to read your words but fully understand. And looking forward to keeping in touch even so.

Ah sorry I'm a bit late reading this. That is sad news, but understandable. I will miss reading your posts. I think many blogs seem to be heading towards closure. Mine has definitely slowed down.
