Prison statistics

So, here's an interesting statistic my Legal Studies students and I were looking at this week:

In NSW, 30% of people in prison come
from just four postcodes and most
others from ten. In Victoria 25% of
prisoners come from 2% of postcodes

Do they tell you which postcodes they are?

What are the postcodes?

Sorry! Don't know. But stats from Corrective Service NSW 2012 Inmate census tells me that about 30.7% percent of prisoners come from the areas of inner Sydney, Fairfield-Liverpool, Canterbury-Bankstown and central western Sydney in that order. But they don't give me the postcode breakdown. Interestingly, in NSW, more than 74% of prisoners were born in Australia and about 73% have been in prison previously.

And just over 93% of NSW full-time inmates are male.
